from the Kalahari to winemaker
Zoetendal Wine Farm is located near the picturesque mission village of Elim and 30 kilometres from Agulhas; the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. The farm is situated on the banks of the Nuwejaars River, providing it with one of the most exceptional views and peaceful atmospheres.
In 2015 the Becker family made Zoetendal Farm their new home. The family moved from Upington to Zoetendal Farm. Jan, the father of the family, grew up in the Kalahari and after 50 years, searched for greener grazing grounds. Christine, the mother, was a teacher at Oranje-Noord Primary School for 13 years. She now runs the Farm Stall and Coffee Shop. Salmon, the eldest son, manages the nearby wine farm restaurant, Black Oystercatcher. Michael, a winemaker in the making, is studying at the University of Stellenbosh. The twins, Jana and Christine, are busy completing their final exams at Bredasdorp High School, after which both will pursue studies at the University of Stellenbosh.
